Amanda Lawrence - April DT Share

I am totally loving my time on the Memory Maze design team! On the last weekend of the school holidays (QLD) I headed off on a weekend retreat with 33 other wonderful ladies from my local scrap store, Bella Paperie. I was so excited to hear that the lovely Sally, owner of Memory Maze, would be attending and teaching a class there. It was so wonderful to meet her in real life, as so often we only make contact within this industry via the computer. Sally is such a lovely lady and it was great to get to know her better over the course of the weekend.

A whole weekend of scrapping meant I was able to get a little ahead with my DT projects and the added bonus of sampling and playing with some of the new designs. Even though I put chippy on everything I created, my box came home quite a bit fuller than when I left!

{2} Sweet

I just adore this photo of my little cherubs. It was only taken on my iPhone, snapped after brekky. Ellah is in her highchair and they are both in their PJ's believe it or not.

I used the word 'sweet' as part of my title which I simply inked.

The little people was something I requested from Sally. I showed her a picture from a toilet door and asked if she could cut me some. Even though she wondered what on earth I would want them for she willingly obliged for me. The end result we both agree looks great! One little boy and one little girl inked and attached to a heart painted with gesso.

I used the largest of the scalloped overlays to frame my photo and have simply covered it with patterned paper. I think this would have to be one of my favourite pieces, I've used it so many times!

Snapshot

We recently adopted some guinea pigs, my boy has been asking for a pet for ages! We got this brown one first, which he calls Oatie. He has such a great temperament and likes to go everywhere with the boy, it's just so darn cute.

I used an arrow from the multi pack which I inked in black and then wrapped with some twine.

These mini viewfinder reels were another of my requests from Sally. I think they look amazing! Again I simply inked in black and then added a flair button to the centre.

Happy Girl

My girl is such a happy little thing. I love to take snaps of her and alter them with apps on my iPhone. I'm particularly fond of the bokeh light affects like the one I've used here.

I needed some tiny flourishes and the border hooks cut to length were perfect to poke in with my floral cluster.

I used the script word 'happy' as part of my title. I absolutely adore the look of mixed typography and the mini words are the perfect size for doing this on my pages.

My main cluster was built around the butterfly corner piece. I have inked it to match my other chipboard pieces and then used a butterfly stamp over the top.

I also scattered a few of the small hearts which I covered in washi tape. Such a simple technique, just lay strips on and then trim away the excess with a sharp knife.

Two Cute

This is an older photo of my babies, something I have been working on for a while and honestly struggling to finish off. Once I decided to add the chipboard, it suddenly all fell into place.

I have used the scalloped border which I have actually cut into two pieces. This not only makes your chippy go further but means it's not wasted if it is going to sit behind something and not seen.

I used the 'cute' word for my title. I didn't have the right shade of aqua ink and it turned out a bit bright so I was able to dull it down by lightly sponging another colour on top. It gave it a slightly distressed look which matches the papers perfectly.

Other products:
Pink Paislee, My Minds Eye and Kaisercraft papers, thread, ink, D-lish Scraps: washi, felt blossoms, resin flowers, crochet flower, glass cabachon, metal cabochon frames, buttons, date stamp, Carolee's mini alphabet stickers.

APRIL DELIGHTS

Hi it's Susan here and I am really enjoying scrapbooking with the Memory Maze chippies. I find I am adding them to all my projects! This time I thought I would show you some different ways with frames.......

ANGEL OF MINE
Our grandson Cooper is now an angel in Heaven so this title fitted perfectly with this layout. I cut the angel wings from plain card, using a stencil as a guide. The wings were lightly painted with gold acrylic paint and rubbed over with gold metallic cream rub. The photo was cut to fit in the spaces of the frame. For the backing paper on the frame, I turned the pattern paper to the wrong side and laid the frame on it and traced around it then I cut it out. I used glue to adhere the paper to the back of the frame and then used double sided tape to attach the frame to the layout. More photos can be used in this frame but I really wanted to highlight just this photo and filled the spaces with embellishments.

I painted the frame with Adirondack Dabber in pearl. The birds were painted with Distress Stain in tarnished brass. To make the beaded wire I twisted the wire around the frame and back on itself to anchor it to the frame. You can use a long piece of wire but if that is too fiddly you can use shorter pieces and just anchor them on and twist them off with each length. Then I slipped a bead onto the wire and twised it around the base of the bead and wound the wire around the frame then put the next bead on. Keep doing this until you reach all around the frame. It's not as tedious as it sounds and you can add as many beads as you like!

For the title I painted it with Adirondack Dabber in pearl but thought it was a bit pale looking so I dabbed over it with Distress Stain in tarnished brass and inked the edges in brown ink.

DADDY & ME
This is my younger son with our grandson and the rub on at the top of the layout describes them both! The frame used on this layout is part of a set of 9 frames (I used one of them on my first post in February). I used a mask and texture paste on the frame to give it dimension then rubbed over it with Distress Stain in silver. Then I lightly swiped over the high spots with a grey ink pad. I used my finger to rub red acrylic paint onto the inside edge of the frame to mimic the red on the background paper. I used the same technique on the background page to the left of the frame.

This corner piece was easily decorated using red acrylic paint and stick on pearls. That's the beauty of Memory Maze chipboard- you can make it fit with any project you are doing!

The title was painted with red acrylic paint and then it was dry I used a Kaisercraft rubon and stamped over it with grey paint.

FISHING TRIP
The trend at the moment in picture frames is a cluster of different sized frames together on the one mount. I wanted to mimic this using the four frames (out of the set of 9). The word "miracle" was painted with black gesso with black Kindy Glitz over the top. Here is my husband David with his paddle kyak out at Bjelke Petersen Dam out near Kingaroy in Queensland. He is fishing mad so we have a lot of "fishy" photos! As the saying on the layout goes " A bad day fishing beats a good day working!"

The frames were painted with black gesso and then when they were dry I brushed on Perfect Pearls in blue, purple and silver. The cogs were coated in Distress Stain in brushed pewter and when dry I topped them with Kindy Glitz in antique silver. On both the fish I  did a base coat with Lumiere in Halo-violet gold. Then I layered on distress ice stickles and sprinkled on glitter while it was still wet. Once this was dry I then covered them with crystal glaze to give them a shiny fish look!

The anchor was painted with Distress stain in brushed pewter. The title was painted with Smooch in sugarberry and teal through the center.

The fish hooks and the rods were painted with Distress stain in brushed pewter. The rod handles were painted with Smooch in molasses and the spinners in teal. I used a white pen to highlight the line on the spinner and for the fishing line going along the rod.

Out in the country with Memory Maze

Hi everyone. This is Julene and my first 2 layouts are taking us to the country.

    Farm mates

This features "End of Day Cowboys & the word "mates".
A friend kindly gave me some photos of her mother who grew up on a farm.
These 2 photos are of her with a  neighbour's horse.
I misted the chipboard with "Sugar Maple " coloured mist (also used for the chevrons). Then, using Pinecone coloured ink, I darkened the 2 figures and the saddle. The tag was stained with a teabag and the word mates was painted brown.

 Rose Hill

This layout features our farm gate with barbed wire and wheel.
I've inked the whole thing with pinecone ink. I used Autumn tones on this one and twine, plus a strip of field flowers to "grow" near the gate. The photo features old farm machinery with 2 men.
The birds on the gate needed to stand out so I've dabbed white paint on their tummies to resemble magpies.
Here's a close up.

Next, a little picture made with Memory Maze chipboard

I've used memory Maze bunnies and tree on this layout. It was an inspirational picture of a tree in a field which we needed to interpret.
The details of how to texture the tree can be found on my blog here http://julenebydesign.blogspot.com.au/2013/04/counterfeit-kit-challenge-1-and-memory.html
Basically, I painted with gesso, daubed brown paint then misted over the top.

Now for a total change of topic

Victorian Gothic

My daughter is a costume designer. This is her favorite Era.
A couple of years ago she went to the "Blue Moon Festival" at Newtown in Sydney .
She dressed a few of her friends in Victorian costumes.
Erica made her hat, corset and skirt plus styled her boyfriend's suit, waistcoat & watch chain.
They looked great and people stopped them to admire their outfits.

On this layout I used green, black and silver as my main theme.
I've inked in silver, then embossed the flourish next to the photo plus the corset. As a finishing touch on the corset, I've added frilled braid (also from Memory Maze)
Here's a close up of the corset and flourish.

Finally,  a card made for a man using our jigsaws which I've distress inked in black. This was a thank you for a friend who helped with some repairs. I love that Echo Park tool paper.
